‘We know what we want to do’ – Magnussen issues update on talks over still working with Haas after 2024

Kevin Magnussen has given an update over potential plans to continue working with Haas after his impending exit from the race team at the end of 2024, with the Dane admitting that he and the team “know what we want to do” going forwards.
It was confirmed back in July that Magnussen would leave the squad at the end of the season, bringing his second stint with the American outfit to an end following his return in 2022 after a year out of the sport.

Prior to that he raced for the team between 2017 and 2020, during which time they achieved a best-ever finish of fifth in the 2018 constructors’ championship.
When Magnussen’s departure from Haas was announced, Team Principal Ayao Komatsu voiced his hope that the two parties could “find a way to keep working together in some capacity”, citing Magnussen’s “special relationship” with the team.
Asked during the recent triple header of races if there had been any progress on this front, Magnussen responded: “Yeah, we’re still working on [it].
“We’re not really stressing – in a triple header it’s just busy, you’re trying to do your best on track. Since there’s no stress and we kind of know what we want to do, it’s no rush.”

When speaking later about what his racing future might hold, the 32-year-old – who was forced to miss the Sao Paulo Grand Prix due to illness – admitted that his focus is currently on maximising the remaining races in 2024 and helping Haas to stay ahead of their rivals in the constructors’ championship.
“It’s a tight battle with our main competitors in the championship and it can swing around quickly, so we really need to stay focused and do a very good job to beat [RB],” said Magnussen.
He continued: “I’m thinking about this championship, finishing as high as possible for the team and focusing race by race. I know in this sport it only matters how well you do on track.”
Haas have now slipped to seventh in the standings after Alpine’s surprise double podium at Interlagos hauled the Enstone squad up into sixth, though the gap between the two teams stands at just three points.

RB, meanwhile, are only two points adrift of Haas in eighth place with three races still to go.
