HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A theft suspect is back behind bars after allegedly breaking into a business in Keaau and stealing a truck.
Police said 32-year-old Dylan Gapp is charged with an array of offenses, including second-degree burglary, first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, and third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.
The burglary incident happened on Thursday shortly before 3:30 p.m.
Authorities said the owner of the Puna business called police the moment he saw Gapp apparently breaking into the business and taking a company vehicle.
When officers arrived on scene, Gapp sped off in the stolen vehicle.
It wasn’t until two days later, Saturday morning, when Puna patrol officers were conducting a patrol in Hawaiian Paradise Park that they spotted the stolen vehicle.
HPD said when officers discovered Gapp standing next to the vehicle, Gapp began to run away on foot with a backpack.
Officials said Gapp ended up stumbling into a small ditch and he was arrested shortly after.
Police recovered a small amount of cocaine and drug paraphernalia from the backpack and vehicle.
Gapp’s bail was set at $116,000.
He was also charged with Failure to Appear and Discharge of Sureties, resulting in an additional $240,000. bail.
Gapp appeared in court on Monday for the incident. He’s also awaiting another court appearance in January for allegedly chasing a man while riding an ATV.
